"Thank You" goes a Long Way
Hello Champions,
As we move into November and towards Thanksgiving, I was thinking about giving thanks and how much people enjoy being appreciated. As leaders, I know all of us are open to making improvements and being the best we can be. With that being said, I'd like to share with you an idea that will cost you nothing and you'll receive maximum return. Sounds like a great investment to me!
I've been working with companies, coaching leaders and speaking for close to 14 years now, and I've never had anyone tell me that they receive too much "thanks" or appreciation for a "job well done." Unfortunately the bar swings to the other extreme. people not feeling appreciated.
Now hear me clear on this, as I'm not suggestion everyone needs a daily hug; no that's not it. Yet I will say that the most effective leaders, whether it be a CEO or a sales manager, have the ability to acknowledge their people for a job well done. Trust me, I've heard it all. you know the "old school" mentality; "I thank my people twice a month. with a paycheck." Well, that may be true, yet I will tell you that you'll catch more bees with honey than with a stick.
Motivation
There have been studies done that many people work harder to receive recognition than a raise. The fact of the matter is, most people that you work with don't get recognized on a regular basis at home. so if you have the ability as a leader to let people know when they did a "good job," you will see them thrive.
When I talk to superstar sales performers, they are wired a bit different. They want the money. Forget the recognition. they can buy it with their commission. Yet I will say that most superstar sales performers have an ego to match, and stroking the ego will get you increased sales as well.
Who Can You Recognize?
As you read this article, jot down a few people in your life and/or business that deserve a "Thank You" for a job well done. It could be one of your sales people, a manager; your secretary or maybe even your spouse. There isn't anyone I've met who doesn't like to be recognized for their hard work or achievements. Recognizing someone for making things happen isn't difficult and it's something that great leaders do. So go out and give some thanks today.
Keep Believing!
Dan
